Brix

In the US, the sugar content of wine is measured using the brix scale (denoted as °). The brix scale compares the specific gravity of the must or wine to water. One point of the Brix scale is equivalent to 1 gram of sugar per 100 grams of grape juice. For most wines, about 55% of the available sugar is converted to alcohol, so a wine with 25° will produce a wine with an alcohol concentration of about 13.8%.
