Soft

(1) WineEnabler.com’s Wine 101 style term for medium bodied white wines with a mellow palate. Soft wines are typically made from either Sauvignon Blanc or Chardonnay. Soft Sauvignon Blancs are treated with oak and are typically subject to malolactic fermentation. Soft wines made from Sauvignon Blanc grapes include Pouilly-Fume from France, as well as most Californian Sauvignon Blancs and “Fume Blancs”. Soft wines, such as Pouilly Fuisse are made from Chardonnay grapes.
(2) A wine tasting descriptor that indicates a wine with lower acidity and lower tannins.
