Off to the first annual Wine Bloggers Conference
Okay. Tomorrow I’m off to the 2008 Wine Bloggers Conference in Sonoma, CA. Neil and our better halves arrived in San Francisco today, but I am lagging behind due to a conference I’m at for my day job.
Expect lots of posts either over the weekend or immediately afterward. We’re going to get to try lots of wines, so look here for the best new wines we discover.

What about the low-tech wine temperature labels?
Living in Texas, we can’t order wine online for about three or four months each year, because it will be cooked by high temperatures during shipping. Neil and I have talked before about how useful it would be to have a wine label that passively showed some temperature history of the bottle. Well, PakSense, Inc. isn’t quite making the completely passive, simple monitor we were thinking of, but they have made something a little more complicated. [click to continue…]

The 2008 Wine Bloggers Conference in Sonoma, CA
My birthday is in October and my wife was looking for something to do. A quick Google search later and she found the 1st annual Wine Bloggers Conference in Sonoma. Not that this would be her pick as a birthday vacation destination, but then it is my birthday and she is married to a rather odd fellow.
So Michael and I are heading to the American Wine Blogger’s Conference in Sonoma, which is on October 24-26th. [click to continue…]

It is with great interest that we have watched the wine industry begin to explore “green” and “sustainable” practices. WineEnabler.com applauds and supports these efforts. In the coming weeks and months, we will participate in the discussion with the wine community on these topics.
We think it is important to have a clear understanding of the problems we face as we start to propose solutions. There have been some excellent first steps to define the scope of the problem.

The Sideways phenomenon: Rising Pinot Noir & falling Merlot prices
While Neil is off writing thoughtful posts about wine bars in Austin, TX or wine reviews, I’ve been goofing around. What’s worse is I’ve been goofing around making graphs about wine — quite the geeky thing to do, I know.
I was reading some wine blogs today, and I came across this post at Pinotblogger.com about the climbing prices of Pinot Noir grapes in California. The Pinot prices started to climb in 2004, which is just about when the movie Sideways came out. And we all remember Paul Giamatti’s character gushing eloquently about his love for Pinot Noir while cursing Merlot. So I decided to get the Merlot side of the story, and then I took it too far and made this figure.
